After searching for an on-campus spot for our in-person research project for over a year now, our group is excited by the prospect of a partnership with the Citris Invention Lab on the UC Berkeley campus.
In the beginning of the pandemic, our project’s lab space was taken in order for the school to perform COVID testing for students and staff. While we are immensely grateful that this system was able to be set up, this left us as a small student group on a highly populated campus with a huge land shortage, searching for a space to house our machinery.
Our group, with the help of many SERC organizers, reached out to various campus managers asking if there were any open spots, but we got no positive responses. There are a huge number of student groups on campus and very few open physical spaces. Also, during the chaos that ensued during the first year of the pandemic, most campus organizers were more concerned with how the entire school would transition back to in-person than they were with helping a small student group find a lab space.
However, after many empty search results, the team found the Citris Invention Lab, and reach out via email. Their response was very enthusiastic! After a few meetings, it seems as though our team may have found our new home for 3D Printer Filament Reclamation on campus!
Everyone on the team is very excited about the prospects of starting this partnership and grateful for the welcoming staff of the Citris Invention Lab.
