After a year of doing our best to further this project while only being able to work remotely, our team is very proud of all that we have accomplished.
We have not only added new members to our team while working remotely, but we have also been able to work very cohesively on remote research projects that helped us to create step-by-step plans for once we can resume our in-person work.
To get an expert opinion and ask for advice on some of the more difficult parts of our project, we scheduled a meeting with UC Berkeley’s Materials Science and Engineering Professor, Ting Xu.
Professor Xu’s achievements in the world of polymer engineering are huge and it was an honor for our team to be able to talk to her and ask for her advice on many of our theoretical approaches to filament reclamation.
Further, since many of our team members are majoring in materials science and engineering, it was especially exciting for them to be able to talk to Professor Xu and form a connection with her early on in their academic careers.
Through this meeting with Professor Xu, we were able to answer so many of our questions that we could not find answers to in our various literature reviews, and we were able to form a stable connection with a very successful expert in polymer engineering. As with any research project, it is incredibly important to learn from those already in the field, and form connections with experts who can help the project along the way.
